The Vieux Carré Cocktail was invented in 1938 by Walter Bergeron, the head bartender at the Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans. The cocktail is named after the French Quarter in New Orleans, the Vieux Carré, where the Hotel Monteleone was located. The Vieux Carré cocktail is an homage to the 1930s New Orleans.
