The Americano Cocktail is considered to be the godfather of the Negroni.
Like many cocktails, its origin is unknown, but there are numerous of stories. According to the traditional story, the Americano was invented in 1860, at Gaspare Campari’s bar in Milan. When it was first invented, the cocktail was named Milano-Torino, containing the main ingredients Campari (Milan) and Cinzano Vermouth (Turin).
Another story goes back to the 1930s, which claims that the cocktail was named in honour of the Italian boxer Primo Carnera, who was active in the United States, and therefore it is called the “Americano.”
