Hanky Panky

Recipe:

6cl Plymouth Gin
4cl Antica Formula
1 Dash of Fernet Branca

The Hanky Panky cocktail was the brainchild of Ada Coleman, known as “Coley,” who began as a bartender at the Savoy Hotel in 1903. She became head bartender, and made cocktails for the preference of Mark Twain, the Prince of Wales, Prince Wilhelm of Sweden, and Sir Charles Hawtry – the man for whom Coleman created the Hanky Panky.
After a long day of work, Sir Hawtry would come into the bar saying, “Coley, I’m tired. Give me something with some punch to it.” Ada spent hours experimenting until she invented a new cocktail. The next time Sir Hawtry came in, she served her new drink. Hawtry sipped it, and, draining the glass, said, “By Jove! That’s a real hanky panky!”
And Hanky Panky it’s been called ever since.
